Far Peak

“Far Peak” is a one-off I did during my last painting spell in the late 90’s, early 2000’s. A special gift for my mom and dad, (just to prove that I did actually go to an established Art School) he built a custom frame and mounted it, now hanging in their dining room is where it remains to this day. This painting was an experiment in palette knife painting. My original goal was to use the knife exclusively however, the trees, clouds and mist had other ideas. This guy was THICK and I loved it. Still gives me joy every time I go home and see it and I have never painted anything like it since.

Painting Details:

(All materials used were current “models” from mid and late 90’s)

-Pre-Stretched Canvas, 23x29” and personally prepared with a blue tinted Gesso “under coat”

-Brushes; Traditional fine point Palette Knife, Grumbacher Bristle, Flat #3, #4, Fan #2

-Paint used; Winsor & Newton Artist Colour and Grumbacher PreTested (back when it was good), 14 different base colors mixed to hue and varying thickness

-Final painting was sealed using 2 coats of High Gloss Damar Varnish

-“Custom Frame” made of real wood, crafted and stained to Collector’s taste

This original work is a Custom piece and cannot be duplicated. Having said that, I welcome the opportunity to discuss making a similar Original Commissioned Piece (it will NOT be a copy, but shall have the same feel as the original).
